Edit! Architects: Prague’s Visionaries of Design and Detail
Today, I’d like to introduce a young and inspiring group of architects from Prague, a city that holds a special place in my heart and seems to be deeply significant to the subject of this post: Edit! Architects. Why do I believe they value this city so much? I invite you to explore their impressive and sleek designs, which extend not only across Prague but throughout Czechia.
In my view, this studio demonstrates a clear commitment to innovation, precision, and respect for context. Their choice of materials and forms reflects this dedication. Moreover, they present their projects with a fresh and energetic approach, infused with a zest for life and bold design choices. By blending modern design with Prague’s rich historical fabric, Edit! delivers work that is both functional and inspiring.
Now, I’d like to highlight some projects that I believe stand out most from their portfolio. Including Haus Rot, Iconik, the Reconstruction of a Villa in Vinohrady, Rohan City, and Slapy Rural Retreat, their work showcases an ability to create spaces that are distinctive, meticulously crafted, and deeply connected to their surroundings. Let’s dive in!

Haus Rot: A Bold Statement in Residential Design

Haus Rot is a striking example of Edit!’s ability to create residences that stand out while harmonizing with their environment. Just look at those curves! This project features a bold red brick facade, carefully chosen to complement Prague’s pastel architectural palette. Every detail, like playful alignment of window frames to the beautiful and smooth shapes, reflects Edit!’s dedication to quality and individuality. I do like projects that can stand out, they don't necessarily have to stand out as much as the Dancing House by Ghery and Milunić, but I appreciate a certain level to bring more character to the place, especially if your building is surrounded by a repetitive mass of simple forms and colors. In my opinion, Haus Rot is not just a home but a testament to how contemporary design can make a powerful, cohesive statement.

Iconik: Modern Elegance in Urban Living

I lived just down the street from Iconik and had the chance to witness the gradual development of this residential project and the positive transformation it brought to the surrounding environment. Iconik represents Edit!’s mastery of modern minimalism and ability to use simply smart (or smartly simple) approach to integrating their designs into urban fabric, which you can see, showcased by their morphology of the roof, that creates gradual transition that is dictated by the neighboring buildings. Such variations in height are not uncommon in Prague’s urban landscape, where noticeable differences often result in unremarkable facades or spaces suited only for murals. Here, Edit! achieved a smooth and gradual transition, skillfully using materials to unite two buildings and create a seamless connection between the structures they were designed to infill.
Reconstruction of a Villa in Vinohrady: Preserving Heritage with Modern Vision

First of all, I would like to start by noting a smart and playful approach of Edit! to showcasing this project on their website. I love it! For context, this project is an adaptation of a flat for an IT company, and I couldn’t have chosen a better way to present it.

This project really knows a way how to sell a bold idea. To begin with, I love how they showcase diagrammatically their interventions, simple axo drawing and colors - that is all you need! Reminds me of BIG diagrams, except a bit simpler and muted, which is not a disadvantage, I like to look at it as a representation of a unique style.

Damn, those colors man! Just love the way it all works together in a simple environment like that.

Rohan City: Redefining Urban Development

Vibrant and vivid, that is how I would describe Rohan City. I see it is an ambitious urban project that blends residential and commercial spaces into a cohesive, forward-looking development.

Edit! drew on Prague’s layered history, incorporating open courtyards and thoughtful material choices that echo the city’s past while embracing modern functionality. Rohan is the area near Vltava river that was waiting for it's turn to get a solid development for a while, and this process have been happening slowly and steadily, transforming what was mostly a brownfield area between numerous office buildings and Vltava - a main artery of Prague. I recall how this area looked in 2015 and it was not much of a looker, despite interesting areas like Pristav 18600 where locals had evens, played volley, walked their dogs and had architectural students build shelters.
The area had received a masterplan and since then was growing, starting from buildings, each took their part to change the landscape of the area, which is already becoming very pleasant place to be in. And since recent connection of this area with the pedestrian bridge "Holka", aptly named for the neighborhoods it connects Holešovice and Karlín (Neighbouring Rohan), this area is full of life and I personally really like.
We are yet to see this beauty realised, after all this is just a study, but damn if it isn't sexy. I think that the project’s success lies in its details—carefully curated textures, playful morphology, optimized natural light, and spaces designed for community interaction—making Rohan City a model for sustainable, human-centered urban design.

Slapy Rural Retreat: Harmony with Nature

Located by the Slapy Reservoir, the Slapy Rural Retreat reimagines a historic family estate as a modern sanctuary. The design features three interconnected buildings forming a U-shaped courtyard, using locally sourced materials to honor the site’s heritage. I really appreciate their smart use of materials; this wood grain makes me very happy. Large-scale glazing creates a seamless connection between indoor and outdoor spaces, enhancing the retreat’s serene atmosphere—the thing that sold me on this project.
I absolutely love a serene natural environment, and if an architect gives me lots of tall windows, they’ll win my heart. Edit!’s attention to detail is evident in every aspect, from the precise alignment of structural elements to the thoughtful integration of the natural landscape. I can also imagine myself walking up to that pond to breathe fresh rural air.

Why Edit! Architects Stands Out
Edit! Architects distinguishes itself through a combination of innovative design, meticulous craftsmanship, and a deep understanding of architectural context. Each project reflects their ability to create spaces that are both functional and inspiring, with a focus on details that elevate the user experience. Aside from that, they are masterful at project representation - just look at those stylish diagrams, those top-notch renders (Edit! please hire me to do your renders :)) and fun way of approaching each project individually as you could see on their website. From bold residential designs to thoughtful urban developments, Edit! is shaping environment of modern Czechia with vision and boldness, leaving a lasting impact on the city’s architectural legacy. I believe this energy will inspire future generations to come. Thank you Edit!
